FILLINGS

Fillings are necessary to repair tooth cavities and protect against further decay. Cavities get bigger over time, so the sooner they’re spotted and filled, the less likely you are to have problems later. This is why regular check-ups are so important. We offer two alternative types of fillings; the traditional amalgam fillings; or newer, white composite fillings for a more natural looking smile.

AMALGAM FILLINGS

Amalgam fillings are a durable and affordable solution for filling cavities. Made from a mixture of metals, they are highly resistant to wear and pressure, making them ideal for back teeth. The procedure is quick, with the filling being placed into the cavity, where it hardens and restores the tooth’s strength and function. Amalgam fillings are long-lasting, reliable, and an excellent choice for patients seeing a sturdy, cost-effective option for cavity repair.

COMPOSITE FILLINGS

Composite fillings are a popular choice for treating cavities, offering a natural-looking solution that blends seamlessly with your teeth. Made from a tooth-coloured resin, these fillings are ideal for visible areas, such as your front teeth. The procedure involved cleaning out the cavity and filling it with the composite material, which is then shaped to match the natural contours of your tooth. Composite fillings are durable, bond directly to the tooth, and provide a strong, aesthetic restoration to both the function and appearance of your smile.

HOW TO AVOID FILLINGS IN FUTURE

Reducing the amount of time your teeth are exposed to sugary or acidic food & drinks can have a surprisingly big impact on the need for fillings in the future.

It goes without saying, but make sure you see your dentist and hygienist regularly to head off problems before they occur. Brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes, in conjunction with the right toothpaste and brush, is crucial. Remember to change your toothbrush or head at least once every three months.
