DENTAL IMPLANTS

Missing teeth can have a big impact on your confidence, as well as sometimes affecting the way you eat and speak. Dental implants offer a long-lasting and discreet choice of treatment for replacing missing or damaged teeth.

HOW IT WORKS

The implant itself is a titanium screw, which is placed directly into your jawbone, replacing your missing tooth root. The bone gradually fuses to it, holding the implant firmly in place as with your own, natural teeth. A false tooth, either a crown or a denture, is then fitted to the implant to complete the natural look of your smile.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We usually fit dental implants over two separate procedures. The first procedure is usually to fit the implant into your jawbone, and then follow-up a few months later with fitting the new tooth onto the implant. You’ll usually be able to have the procedure in the surgery under local anaesthesia.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You can have a single implant, or you can have multiple ones fitted if you need more than one tooth replaced. It is often possible to have several implants fitted in the same procedure, and implants can also be used to support bridges.

Implants aren’t the only way to replace missing teeth, and your dentist will work with you to help you to decide what is best for you. Implants are a more permanent option to dentures, which can last as long as your natural teeth when cared for properly. Bridges also often requires the cutting of your natural teeth in order to fit them.

Dental implants are generally suitable for most adults in good health, and with healthy gums. They are not suitable for people whose underlying bones are still growing, such as children and young adults. As each case is different, you should be sure to tell your dentist about any underlying medical issues you may have so they can work with you to advise the best option for you.

Cost of treatment varies from patient to patient, depending on the number of implants you are receiving and your specific circumstances. As a general rule, you can expect to pay from upwards of £2495 per implant. It is important to remember that implants are a much longer-term solution than many other alternative treatments for replacing teeth, which means the benefits are likely to last a lot longer, too.
